80s Retro VHS Cassette Cover Designs and Types

When it comes to VHS cassette cover designs, there is definitely a retro feel to them. This is because many of these covers were designed in the 1980s, when the VHS format was first introduced. While some may see this as a negative, we actually think it's pretty cool. After all, who doesn't love a bit of nostalgia?

One thing that is particularly interesting about VHS cassette cover designs is the way that they often incorporated elements from popular culture at the time. This is because many designers grew up during this time and have fond memories of browsing through tapes at their local video store. As such, they're able to incorporate some of those same elements into their own creations.

First, let's take a look at some of the most popular brands of VHS cassettes: Sony, JVC, and Panasonic. Each of these brands has a different style and approach to their cover designs.

Sony

Sony's covers are typically very simple and clean-looking. They often feature a single image or graphic on the front, with the title and other information printed in a simple font. Sometimes, Sony will use more than one image on their covers, but they always keep it clean and easy to read.

JVC

JVC's covers tend to be a bit more busy than Sony's. They often feature multiple images or graphics, as well as more detailed text. However, they still manage to keep things looking fairly organized and easy to read.

Panasonic

Panasonic's covers are usually somewhere in between Sony and JVC in terms of simplicity/busy-ness. They often feature one or two images, along with some text. However, the text is usually fairly small and not too detailed.

Now that we've looked at some of the most popular brands, let's take a look at some less common brands: Magnavox, RCA, and Sanyo.

Magnavox

Magnavox covers are typically very colorful and eye-catching. They often feature multiple images or graphics, as well as some text. However, the text is usually fairly small and not too detailed.

RCA

RCA covers are usually fairly simple and clean-looking. They often feature a single image or graphic on the front, with the title and other information printed in a simple font. Sometimes, RCA will use more than one image on their covers, but they always keep it clean and easy to read.
