Kanika Moore - Lead Vocals
Q: What was the creative inspiration behind the new single?
A: The main character makes several appearances throughout our new album. This particular song is about the inner child in us all, including our happy boi.
Q. How did you approach making a music video for the new single?
A: I wanted to give our younger fans an opportunity to be featured and wanted it to be fun and reflective.
Q: What was the biggest challenge in making the video?
A: The kids ate alot of candy and we didn't tell the kids that Ryan (playing the happy boi character) was going to sabotage their party. It was chaos on set, but fun.
Q: How did you want the video to reflect the song’s meaning or mood?
A: I want it to feel light and fun.
Q: How does the video reflect your overall aesthetic as a band?
A: There is a wild rambunctious child resonating in every band member. We are energetic, defiant at times, and still figuring things out.
Q: Do you have any other upcoming projects that you’re excited about?
A: I'm excited about touring and releasing our new album and potentially more music videos.
Q: What do you hope people take away from the new video?
A: Some times you gotta ruin a kids birthday party to get what you want. 🤷🏾♀️
Ryan Stasik - Bass
Q: What was the creative inspiration behind the new single?
A: I think having a fun nostalgic approach to arcade experiences between young and old was the main inspiration.
Q: How did you approach making a music video for the new single?
A: Simple. Give a ton of kids sugar and cake for 10 hours and let them run loose with unlimited gaming cards. It was that foundation that allowed them to truly want to beat the shit out of me. 😂
Q: What was the biggest challenge in making the video?
A: The biggest challenge was getting my kids to bed that night.
Q: How did you want the video to reflect the song’s meaning or mood?
A: Again, a nostalgic arcade vibe where the jerk adult doesn’t have time for kids taking away his play day. Yet, by being mean to them, they eventually get their revenge on the jerk (me). But all in good fun.
Q: How does the video reflect your overall aesthetic as a band?
A: Just a small window into the 80’s and present day dance party vibes that we are trying to illuminate on stage and on record.
Q: Do you have any other upcoming projects that you’re excited about?
A: Our new record.
Q: What do you hope people take away from the new video?
A: A little comic relief. But an appreciation for a simple short banger of a song.
Ross Bogan - Keys, Vocals
Q: What was the creative inspiration behind the new single?
A: I’d have to say musically for me that good ‘ol new synth joy. I had just downloaded the Native Instruments Monark synth which has really great leads so I made a demo out of nothing but leads and a drum machine. We were in the goofy habit of calling everything “boi” at the time (e.g. Sponge = Squishy Clean Boi). The demo came out really happy so I just titled it Happy Boi and we never changed it.
Q: Do you have any other upcoming projects that you’re excited about?
A: We have a new concept album coming out 2023 that we are all really excited about and I think it’s our best work yet.
We would like to thank Doom Flamingo for taking the time to answer our questions. We are excited to see what they do next and we hope you enjoyed this interview.
