What is Synthwave ? What does it mean ? Synthwave also called Ultron retro wave and future syns is a genre of electronic music influenced by 1980s film soundtracks and video games. Beginning in the mid-2000s the genre developed from various niche communities on the internet reaching wider popularity in the early 2010's. In its music and cover artwork synth wave engages in retro-futurism emulating 1980s science-fiction action and horror  media. Retrowave Hello, What is retrowave? Could it be anything made in today's day and aged stylized to eighties anime? Could it be this cool-looking font on the poster from the movie drive? Could it be a wave of water named Gerald who likes to listen to outdated music? Well maybe it's all of those things but maybe it's also none of those things possibly. Initiator of the Streetwear Streetwear's ancestor is actually Urbanwear. Those born between 1970 and 1980 are sure to have heard of Urbanwear in their youth at least once. Streetwear was originally revealed in 1980 by Los Angeles surfers, skateboarders and hiphop audiences. The reason for this style became so popular is to look contrary but elegant.
